Introduction to Sea Kayaking - 5-day

Introduction to Sea Kayaking – 5 day course
Aimed at those who have never kayaked, or who have tried it on holiday or at school and want to learn more. The course will start with fundamental skills, including an introduction to tides and trip planning, and will build up to an overnight expedition.

We will start by introducing you to the equipment, and fitting you in your kayak. On day 1 you will usually launch from our base in central Oban, while on days 2 and 3 you may drive a short distance to explore a different stretch of coastline. Throughout the course, your instructor will teach you the fundamental skills needed to paddle efficiently, interweaving the teaching with journeys so that you can see how those skills come together in practice. You will also be introduced to the basics of tidal planning.
The last two days of the course will feature an overnight expedition, wild camping from your kayak. Depending on the weather, this will give you the opportunity to head further afield to more remote locations.
All equipment and clothing is provided, but you will need to bring your own food. Your instructor can advise on suitable expedition food if you are not sure, there are several supermarkets in Oban where you can buy supplies. We can provide any camping equipment you need (included in course cost), though you are also welcome to bring your own. If using our equipment you may be expected to share a tent with another group member.
The course starts at 09.30 and finishes around 16.30 each day, the overnight expedition will start 09.30 on day 4 and finish around 16.30 on day 5.
Dates: 6-10 May, 10-14 June, 22-26 July, 19-23 August
