National Kayak

Improver Sea Kayaking - 2-day

For paddlers who have spent a few days on the water, and now want to improve their skills. We will start to head out into slightly more exposed waters, learning to deal with wind and waves. This course is also suitable for whitewater paddlers wishing to try sea kayaking.

Working with each paddler’s individual needs, the instructor will focus on improving efficiency and confidence, building up the conditions according to the level of the group. Forward paddling and maneuvering will be key, allowing you to head out on longer, more adventurous trips. Skills will be placed in context, so (weather permitting) you will be journeying on both days. There will also be opportunities to explore what happens when it goes wrong, with a focus on how to be proactive in dealing with capsizes and rescues.

All equipment and clothing is provided, but you will need a packed lunch.
The course starts at 09.30 and finishes around 16.30 on both days.
You will initially meet at our base in central Oban, there may be a short drive on one or both days to enable us to find the most appropriate sea conditions.

Dates: 4/5 May, 16/17 May, 15/16 June, 24/25 June *, 13/14 July, 29/30 July *, 24/25 August, 2/3 September *
